The Skittles Night
Thank you to everyone who attended the skittles evening at the Village Hall. A very well attended event with 12 teams battling it out for glory. The 2017 Greatham Skittles Champions were 'Over the Rainbow' headed up by Rob and Kim Waters, they took home the prestigious trophy and prizes. The 'Round Robin' individual event was an intense competition and Tony Carr was finally crowned overall champion. Many thanks to Tina Sprack for providing excellent fish and chips, fresh from the van.

The Street Party
On a grey and drizzle day in June 2016, Greatham celebrated the Queen's 90th Birthday in style with a Street Party to remember. It was a long struggle to get approvals for the event but we were delighted that finally we got permission to close Queen Hill and invite the whole village, with their friends to the party. Our last two Street parties had been a huge success and we wanted to make this one even bigger and better.
It was a fantastic turn out from the village and we were so lucky that the weather cleared. The spread of cakes was phenomenal, with literally hundreds being baked and donated by our talented local cooks, all themed around the colour purple, it was like having our own Greatham Bake Off. We were especially lucky to have visits from three beautiful Steam Engines, a parade of little ponies and a great team of volunteers who helped run the BBQ and make endless cups of tea and coffee.
We raised £285 for Cancer Research, as well as having a fantastic community event to celebrate such a historic occasion.

The Annual Ball
In September 2016 The Venetian Masked Ball was another sell-out event for GVEC. This bi-annual evening has become a firm favourite with villagers and their friends and this year gave everyone the opportunity to come dressed to impress, complete with their own Venetian mask. The Village Hall looked transformed; the fabric covered black and gold walls were covered in hundreds of masks, big pictures from Venice, feather table centrepieces and a team of waiters and waitresses dressed for the occasion. The local caterer Madeleine's Kitchen provided a stunning three course Italian menu and guests wined and dined until the early hours. The popular band Soul Party, on their third visit to Greatham, performed popular hits from the 80's and 90's and everyone danced the night away. A good time was had by all.
